In Iran the consumption of date fruit is 7 kilos per capita. This number is made up of the average of consumption of date per capita in southern provinces, 25 kilos, and that of other provinces, 1 kilo. As a rule, 1 million tons of date fruit is produced in Iran per annum which is mainly traded in domestic market within Ramadan month. Out of the total date produced in Iran annually, an amount equal to %10 is exported to the other countries, %50 is consumed domestically, and %40 is wasted through different processes of harvest
